Mariah Carey releases deluxe 25th anniversary edition of 'Merry Christmas' album
Mariah Carey has today released a two disc, deluxe edition of her seminal Christmas album Merry Christmas to mark the 25th anniversary of its release.
This new edition will feature a swathe of previously unreleased bonus material, including the audio from her fundraising live performance at The Cathedral of St. John The Divine on December 8, 1994 in New York City. This event captured one of the very first live performances of ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ and rare and unheard recordings of ‘Silent Night,’ ‘Joy To The World,’ ‘Jesus Born On This Day,’ amongst others.
Also included are new tracks, including Carey’s previously unreleased version of ‘Sugar Plum Fairy’, the never before released in the US ‘God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman,’ plus ‘The Star,’ and ‘When Christmas Comes’ with John Legend in addition to remixes and more.
As well as the deluxe edition of the album, the classic single ‘All I Want For Christmas’ will be re-released on December 20 in a range of exclusive formats. This will include a CD single with several versions of the song as well as ‘Hero’ performed live from The Cathedral of St. John The Divine. There will also be cassingles in red or green cassettes and 7” and 12” vinyl featuring ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ and festive, collector’s pop-out decorations on the packaging.
