Ka'Bel release new single 'Follow'
Australian duo Ka’Bel, made up of Belinda Chapple and Katie Underwood who shot to fame as members of early 2000s pop sensation Bardot, have returned with their third single ‘Follow’.
Produced by the USA’s Dylan Bowes and written by Daniel Harley and Ida Rehnberg, ‘Follow’ is a delicious, joyful dance pop song that leads you directly to the dancefloor. Full of heady beats, shimmery synths and dreamy melodies it has an unconventional structure, with a chorus that is largely instrumental, reminiscent of some of the greatest dance music of the 1990s and early 2000s.
Lyrically the song is an anthem to follow your dreams ‘There is a dream, there is a call / There is a feeling growing so strong / There is a light up there that we could just follow’.
After becoming members of Bardot in 2000, Australia’s very first band formed by a reality TV show, Chapple and Underwood shot to international fame, charting in Australia, New Zealand, Asia and the UK. After pursuing different career paths both in and outside of music, in 2021 Underwood and Chapple joined forces again to form Ka’Bel, releasing the single ‘Broken Hearted’. ‘Heartstrings’ and a remix EP followed in 2022, with Chapple recently telling the Women In Pop podcast Ka’Bel is a passion project. “There is that whole ‘what will people think? Do people think we’re old hat?’” she said. “What about embracing music, what about just being passionate about music? People love pop music and it’s a positive thing. It is literally a passion project, there is something really beautiful in creating together.”
The release of ‘Follow’ ties in with Chapple releasing her autobiography The Girl In The Band in which she details the exploitation and poor working conditions Bardot experienced during their two year atop the music charts. Listen to Chapple talk about her experiences on the Women In Pop podcast.
Ka’Bel are a band that wholeheartedly embrace and celebrate the joys of pure pop music and ‘Follow’ is bound to not only bring a smile to your face, but will also compel you to move and lose yourself in the bliss of pop.
