Isabella Manfredi, former lead singer of The Preatures, has announced she will release her debut solo album izzi on September 2, it is quickly becoming one of the most anticipated album releases of the year. Today she also releases the second single from the album ‘Naive’ which features Australian-Nigerian rising new talent Pricie.
izzi is something of a rebirth for Manfredi as it sees her step into a new life as a solo artist as well as a wife and a mother. There is regret, revival and renewal woven into the mix but it is also a love letter to life as a creative being.
“This album has been unique in that it felt like an exploration and development of a new artist and also the culmination of a decade’s vision,” Manfredi says. “It is like a beginning and an ending in that sense. That’s why I called it izzi. izzi was the chrome-wheel-spinning character onstage when I was with The Preatures. I wanted to capture her essence but also create space for my true adult self to have longevity and move beyond her if I needed to. I am izzi but she is not me.” says Isabella.
Working with other women was pivotal to the album’s evolution and Manfredi wrote several songs with singer-songwriter Emma Louise, and also acclaimed songwriter Lucy Taylor (Dua Lipa), while Stella Mozgawa (Warpaint) makes an appearance on drums.
‘Naive’, out now, is an impossibly smooth, addictive pop song that in many ways summarises the album in a nutshell as Manfredi sings about falling in love and wanting the perfect lifestyle as a rich wife and mother as well as a rockstar, while also accepting this is perhaps just a fantasy ‘maybe we’re just naive baby / Do the same things….always’. Rising star Pricie joins for a powerful rap in the middle.
Manfredi has been a beloved staple of the Australian music industry since she first released music in 2012 with The Preatures, who scored two top 20 albums and six ARIA nominations over their career. She now embarks on the next stage of her career with power, purpose and a sense of peace. izzi is guaranteed to be the highlight of her career to date.
