Camila Cabello celebrates family and roots in new single 'Don't Go Yet'

Camilla Cabello has returned with her first new music of 2021 with single ‘Don’t Go Yet’.

Written with Scott Harris, Ricky Reed and Mike Sabath, the track is a joyful blast of vibrant pop, rich with a Latin soundscape and includes live percussion by acclaimed Cuban drummer Pedrito Martinez. Cabello says the song, and her upcoming third album, was inspired by the increased time she spent with her family during the pandemic lockdowns leaving her feeling more in touch with her roots as a result. "'Don't Go Yet' is sonically and melodically just me being free”, she told Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1. “I think being in Miami for so long and having more family around me and speaking Spanish more just kind of brought me back. I think my roots went deeper in a way that I really needed."

Cabello has also released the music video for ‘Don’t Go Yet’ which further sees her embrace her Cuban-Mexican heritage. The video features appearances from her father, sister and cousin and shows the celebration of a family fiesta. “To me, those are the moments that make me glad to be alive, those moments of collective joy and true vulnerability and connection with other people,” Cabello tweeted to her fans. “I hope you enjoy it, and I hope it inspires many wine drunk kitchen dance parties for you and your familia.”

‘Don’t Go Yet’ is the first single from Cabello’s third studio album Familia. Although a release date has not yet been announced, Cabello said she wants the album to ‘manifest joy’, telling Zane Lowe: "I want it to be that kind of family affair selfishly, because it would make me happy. It would make my life better and that's what I want, so that's really what I was trying to manifest with this whole album.”
