Bananarama announce 2019 Australian tour

Iconic pop duo Bananarama today announce they will be returning to Australia for a nationwide tour in February 2019. The Australian tour will follow on from their North American tour in January 2019.

Fresh from their sell-out reunion tour of 2017-2018 which saw former bandmate Siobhan Fahey re-join the band, this will be Bananarama’s first tour of Australia in three years.

Childhood friends Sara Dallin and Keren Woodward came up through the London punk scene, starting out as backing vocalists before joining forces with Siobhan Fahey and starting to write songs and perform with their friends’ bands in the early 1980s. Bananarama scored their first hit in 1982 when they guested on the Fun Boy Three single ‘It Ain’t What You Do (Its The Way That You Do It)’ before going on to acheive a multitude of international smash hits including ‘Cruel Summer’, ‘I Heard A Rumour’, ‘Love In The First Degree’ and ‘I Want You Back’. Their iconic 1986 hit ‘Venus’ hit number one in the US and also spent 7 week atop the Australian singles chart. “‘Venus’ was such a massive hit for us,” Sara Dallin said. “Everyone we talk to has a fond memory of those times.” Their spectacular run of chart hits - 43 singles and counting - has made them the most successful all-female band of all time and they have sold over 40 million album sales worldwide.

Currently recording their 11th studio album, their first since 2009’s Viva, Banananarama’s Australian tour is a not to be missed event. Supporting the duo will be 1980’s legend Tiffany who scored massive hits in the 1980s including ‘I Think We’re Alone Now’ and ‘Could’ve Been’, and German singer Amber, most famous for her hits ‘This Is Your Night’ and ‘Sexual (Li Da Li)’ and her part in the classic Stars on 54 hit ‘If You Could Read My Mind’. Tickets on sale from 25 October.
