Pop icons Bananarama (Sara Dallin and Keren Woodward) today return with their first new music since last year’s critically acclaimed album Masquerade with the release of their new single ‘Feel The Love’.
Written by Dallin, Woodward and long time collaborator Ian Masterson, ‘Feel The Love’ is classic Bananarama, a glittering, euphoric, pulsing slice of gorgeous electropop, and as with everything they release it is overflowing with gorgeous vocal harmonies, irresistible hooks and melodies you will happily drown in.
“‘Feel the Love’ is about believing in yourself, focusing on what you want and not listening to negativity,” Dallin says. “It was a process of making something soaring and uplifting,” Woodward continues. “And we’ve gone to town with the harmonies, which we love.”
Alongside the release of ‘Feel The Love’, today Bananarama also announce they will be celebrating their 40 years in music with the release of a brand new greatest hits collection on March 8 2024, Glorious: The Ultimate Collection. Personally curated by Dallin and Woodward, the album charts their musical lives from their breakthrough in the early 1980s with hits such as ‘Cruel Summer’ and ‘Robert De Niro’s Waiting’, through their global chart topping years in the mid 1980s and 1990s with ‘Venus’ and ‘I Heard A Rumour’, their renaissance in the 2000s with ‘Move In My Direction’ and ‘Look On The Floor (Hypnotic Tango)’ and right up to their 2022 album Masquerade. Featuring their biggest hits alongside deep cuts and remixes, new single ‘Feel The Love’ will be joined by another new song ‘Supernova’.
“We wanted this to be a unique collection, a celebration of all the twists and turns in our career,” Dallin says. “We compiled endless lists of songs, album tracks and hit singles and whittled it down to forty: our favourite tracks from the past four decades. Leafing through my early lyric books transported me back to that teenage girl writing poems and scribbles that would eventually be turned into songs. Each track ... is a piece of the jigsaw and a connection to me. Together they create the bigger picture, the story of us as artists. It has been one almighty journey.”
“At times we have maybe felt that we haven’t received the credit, respect, and recognition we deserve, certainly sometimes purely down to the fact we were born female,” Woodward says. “I feel the collection of songs we have amassed over the last four decades hopefully speak for themselves, so I don’t have to. Putting the music together for this project... made me realise how much we have achieved and how determined, tenacious, and hardworking we are.”
Glorious: The Ultimate Collection will be available in multiple versions and is available to pre-order now. Alongside a double CD, double cassette and tripe gold vinyl, there will also be deluxe versions: a triple red vinyl and 3CD set, both featuring bonus remixes and accompanied by a book featuring an introduction by broadsheet journalist Fiona Sturges, articles by Dallin and Woodward, and an in-depth exploration of Bananarama’s relationship with fashion and music by writer and trends expert Katie Baron. It also includes photos of many of Bananarama's outfits and memorabilia from their personal collections.
Today Bananarama also announce they will be performing a special show at the London Palladium on April 3, 2024. Fans who pre-order the album from the Official Store will receive exclusive access to a pre-sale which will open on 23 October 2023 at 9am before remaining tickets go on general sale on 25 October 2023 at 9am.
One of the truly great artists in pop music of the last 40 years, Bananarama are responsible for creating some of the most joyous pop music you have ever heard, and have inspired a whole generation of female artists with their influence seen in bands including the Spice Girls, All Saints, the Sugababes and more. New music from them is always something to treasure and they don’t disappoint with ‘Feel The Love’. 2024 is shaping up to another incredible year of Bananarama goodness.
