AYA YVES releases new single 'white flag' and announces second EP ‘serotonin & forget me nots'.

Australia’s AYA YVES has released her new single ‘white flag’, alongside announcing the release of her second EP serotonin & forget me nots and a tour along the east coast of Australia throughout May.

Written with fellow musician Bri Clark and Patrick Byrne and produced by Beso Palmer, ‘white flag’ is a mellow electronica track with Yves’s beautiful, tender vocals mixing with distorted sounds and flashes of synths. Lyrically it looks at the relationship within families, particular mother and daughter, and how we often cannot decipher or understand certain hurtful behaviours until we mature.

“I'd spent the last couple of years working through my family history in therapy and realised I could (with a lot of work) break the generational trauma that's been sewn deep into my bloodline,” Yves says. “My parents grew up in the Czech Republic post WW2, their parents lived it. That kind of world breeds stoic people, and stoic people can be tough parents. I realised I'd spent so long trying so hard not to be my mother and one day I woke up with so much in common. I felt like I suddenly understood where she was coming from and even if sometimes it wasn't enough, she did the best she could with what she had. 'white flag' comes from a place of understanding and empathy, but also is a proclamation that it ends with me.”

‘white flag’ is the second release from Yves’s upcoming second EP, serotonin & forget me nots, which is due for release on May 5. Also featuring first single, January’s ‘feeling small (let the light in)’, Yves says the EP is a cathartic exploration of grief.

“After experiencing some heavy personal grief over the last two years I wanted to create something that commemorated my journey through it and coming out the other side. Grief isn’t something that ever goes away, but the songs go through the stages I felt - eventually coming to a place of acceptance, and hope.”

To celebrate the release of serotonin & forget me nots Yves is embarking on a tour of the east coast of Australia throughout May. Kicking off at Kombumerri (Gold Coast) on May 11, it will wrap up in Naarm (Melbourne) on May 27. Tickets are available now.

Aya Yves is an artist that continues to impress with everything she releases. Emotionally raw, yet incredibly powerful, her music details her life but is created in such a way that you can easily adopt it as the soundtrack to your own life experiences. Yves never fails to make you feel and if ‘white flag’ and ‘feeling small (let the light in)’ are any indication, serotonin & forget me nots is destined to be a musical highlight in May.
