Alice D releases new single 'Nervous' and announces EP 'Into The Light' will be out September 15
Singer-songwriter Alice D today releases her new single ‘Nervous’ and announces her new EP Into The Light will be released on September 15.
‘Nervous’ follows July’s ‘Passion’ which saw Alice embrace Afro-Latin mixed with Cuban sounds and landed her a slot as a BBC Introducing Spotlight Artist. ‘Nervous’ continues Alice’s exploration of African sonics mixed with R&B and features a hypnotic, primal beat with gorgeous, multiple vocal layers. The track carries an empowering message of remaining true to yourself and not wasting time on people who try to suppress that. “If I’m comfortable being myself / Does that make you nervous? / If so you don’t deserve this,” Alice sings.
“I started with stories I’d experienced and heard from people close to me about how independent women are seen as difficult by men, then opened up to society as a whole and the standards people are unfairly held to,” Alice says of the inspiration behind the song.
Also out today is the visualiser for ‘Nervous’ which was directed by Henry Croston (Mabel, Yung Filly, Liam Payne).
“The ‘Nervous’ video was just Henry and I in a field so it’s a much simpler set-up than ‘Passion’, but I think it conveys this message of freedom really well,” Alice says. “The red suit is powerful and strong and matches the ‘Nervous’ artwork too. I wanted to run in the video as I sing about people ‘running away from themselves’ and being fearful of others who are being true to themselves. The colour red also symbolises action, confidence, and courage.”
Alice D also announces today her new EP Into The Light will be released on September 15. Featuring both ‘Passion’ and ‘Nervous’, the six tracks plus an atmospheric opener and closer draw on Alice’s personal experiences to tell a story that is uniquely hers while also allowing the listener to meld the songs to their own lives.
Alice D is an artist that has grown in confidence, creativity and vision since her first release back in 2014 and seemingly manages to hit a new creative peak with every new release. ‘Nervous’ is a new highlight in an career with many, and Into The Light may well be her best work yet. Tune in now.
