Sydney based singer-songwriter Abbey Lane today releases her new single ‘Pretty Face’, her first new music since she launched her solo career in 2021 with the mesmerising debut single ‘Hypnotised’.
Written by Lane and produced by Jordan Leonard, ‘Pretty Face’ is a brilliantly created track that moves through multiple moods and genres. Starting with an acoustic piano, it moves into a gritty indiepop tune before transforming into a swirling, synth driven trance-y chorus that transports you immediately to the dancefloor. It is an appropriate soundscape for a song that lyrically tackles multiple subjects, including fear of time moving too fast, existentialism and the struggles of pursuing a career in the creative arts. The constantly changing mood makes you feel you are experiencing the rollercoaster ride Lane sings about, before bringing peace at the end with an abrupt change to a gentle, almost lullaby sound as Lane croons ‘it’ll be okay’.
“I originally wrote parts of this song when I was 16, and re-worked it over the past couple of years since I found a lot of the lyrics were still relevant. It’s an amalgam of thoughts circling around time, relationships and pursuing a career as a singer-songwriter,” Lane says. “The music for this track sparked from an idea of creating a drop with a dirty lead guitar line played in between heavy synths. I’m also a fiend for using syncopated synth rhythms, so the chorus flowed from there.”
Lane has been part of the Sydney music scene for the past four years and just two singles into her solo career, she is proving she is a remarkable talent. With a stunning voice, plus the versatility to pull off seemingly any genre with complete authenticity, Lane creates music that is exciting, addictive and kind of just grabs you by the heart and won’t let go. An artist that has the potential to go very far, Abbey Lane is a new talent to watch very closely.
