Burgeoning superstar Tate McRae today returns with her new single ‘It’s ok I’m ok’, her first new music since the release of her second album Think Later was released last December.

Written and produced with Ryan Tedder (Taylor Swift, Beyoncé), ILYA (Ariana Grande, ROSALÍA) and Savan Kotecha (The Weeknd, Ellie Goulding), ‘It’s ok I’m ok’ is a moody, electronic pop track that brings in elements of hip-hop and R&B. With an unusual structure, rather than being the most forceful part of the song, the chorus dials everything back a notch to become a pared back, subdued moment, with a staccato vocal delivery from McRae. It is a brilliant move that gives the song added wow factor and makes it even more hypnotic.

Lyrically the song tells of an ex-lover who McRae is glad is now taken by someone else, despite their history. “And she be like, ‘He's so perfect’ / I be like, ‘Oh, what version?’…Take him, he's yours,” she sings.

“I’m so beyond excited to share “It’s ok I’m ok” with the world and this new chapter of my music,” McRae says. “This song is a byproduct of reflecting back on past relationships to now and how much I’ve grown and learned from them. It’s a playful take on knowing your worth and the all too relatable feeling of never wanting someone back.”

Also out today is the music video for ‘It’s ok I’m ok’. Directed by Hannah Lux Davis (Doja Cat, Charlie XCX) and choreographed by Sean Bankhead (Cardi B, Lil Nas X), it feature McRae strutting through city streets, getting arrested and performing her signature high energy choreography.

Currently on her sold out Think Later tour, McRae will hit Australian shores in November playing seven shows across the country before travelling to New Zealand. The album is in support of her second album Think Later which hit number 2 in Australia, number 4 in the US and number 5 in the UK. It contained her global smash hits ‘greedy’ and ‘exes’.

Releasing music since 2017, McRae broke through in 2020 with the massive hit ‘You Broke Me First’ and over the past few years has slowly but surely become one of the biggest young artists in music, with the talent and potential to become one of this generations biggest music icons. ‘It’s ok I’m ok’ continues her incredible rise and ushers in the next exciting stage of her career.

‘It’s ok I’m ok’ is out now via RCA Records/Sony Music Australia. You can buy and stream here.
