Rackett has a 'Crush' with brilliant new single
Australia’s indiepop artist Rackett (real name Rebecca Callander) today releases her new single ‘Crush’, the latest track from her debut mini-album due for release in November this year.
‘Crush’ is another delicious slice of life affirming, addictive electropop from Rackett after she re-branded her music career entirely last year. Not only did she transfer from being part of a band to a solo artist, but she changed her sonic landscape entirely switching from punk tinged rock to electropop. ‘Crush’ is probably Rackett’s most accomplished release since her reinvention, brimming with confidence and lush production which puts the track on a level with any self-respecting global superstar. Jittery synths in the verses lead into an impossibly catchy, dreamy chorus followed by a swirling middle eight breakdown that comes straight from the pop perfection rulebook. Co-written, produced and mixed with Dave Hammer (Lime Cordiale, Mia Rodriguez) and mastered by Grammy Award-winning engineer Joe Laporta (Solange, FKA Twigs), Rackett rates ‘Crush’ as a career highlight. “‘Crush’ is my best work yet,” she says. “I’m totally smitten with the lyrics and sound design. Dave and I created layers of experimental sounds, even recording paper ripping in the studio to compliment the lyrics; ‘tear my logic apart, gimme your love get me outta this crush’. I love to create music and art that combines both digital and raw elements within one space.”
Artists reinventing their sound is one of the most exciting things to watch in pop music and Rackett is proving she can switch her sound up with expert perfection. This new era of Rackett is one we can’t wait to see develop.
