New York-born and Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Molly Moore has released her first new music of 2022, the single ‘Shy’.
A chilled, R&B-tinged track mixed with an irresistible 1970s inspired groove the song explores meeting someone you instantly feel a connection with and are keen to know if the feeling is mutual. ‘You make me feel confident and I’m confident you the one / I might be delusional, it’s excusable, you a drug,’ Moore sings.
“This song was written in a stream of consciousness,” Moore says about the creation of the track. “It was one of those times when I listened to the words I was naturally saying while writing the melodies and they fit exactly how I was feeling without really having to change too much. I was starting to feel a spark and wanted to know if the other person felt it too. It felt like they were holding back what they were feeling, and I wanted to know if I was just in it alone or if what I was feeling was real. In general, I think people should be encouraged to communicate more freely and honestly, and so often we hide our truth in an attempt to make someone else's experience better, but we end up making the entire situation more complicated.”
Co-produced by artist and friend NoMBe and Mike Gonek (Torro Torro, Chris Brown, Grandtheft), ‘Shy’ is lifted from Moore’s upcoming EP Escapism, to be released on February 11. After experiencing heartbreak with the end of a relationship, Moore felt she could never love again until she met someone that changed the idea of what she wants in a relationship. After unknowingly escaping her own process of avoiding the uncomfortable realities about herself, Moore created this project as part of the process of accepting her faults and learning to love herself.
Moore has been releasing music for many years, initially as part of duo Cosmos & Creature before launching her solo career. She has also worked behind the scenes as a songwriter for artists such as Lea Michele, Robin Bengtsson and Jesse McCartney. Last year she released a live EP and a number of singles including ‘Marco Polo’, a collaboration with NoMBe which has attracted close to 300,000 streams to date and we named one of Women In Pop’s Top 50 Tracks of 2021.
Moore creates dreamy, addictive pop music which delivers everything you need - lush, exquisite melodies teamed with smart, rhythmic lyrics and an attitude and confidence that is utterly captivating. She has the kind of presence that you can’t help but feel she is an artist about to have a major global breakthrough moment. We wouldn’t at all be surprised if 2022 is the year that happens.
