MAY-A returns with new single 'Sweat You Out My System'

One of Australia’s most impressive new talents MAY-A today returns with her new single ‘Sweat You Out My System’, her first new solo music since her 2021 debut EP Don’t Kiss Ur Friends.
‘Sweat You Out My System’ launches a new era of music for MAY-A after a 2022 that saw her score a major hit single as the featured vocalist on the Flume single ‘Say Nothing’ which also saw her nominated for 3 ARIA Music Awards in November.
The new track is a punchy, powerful slice of rock-pop with dashes of punk and indie thrown in, with addictive melodies and vocal hooks that instantly make you feel free, liberated and wanting to rock. Lyrically the song is about trying to get over someone that you have become addicted to.
“‘Sweat You Out My System’ is pretty up-front lyrically, it plays on the idea of being completely addicted to someone,” MAY-A says. “‘Missing you like a little kid / Waiting for you to get back / I wish for you in my veins / So addicted it’s insane’. The whole song stays on theme of the feeling of trying to ‘quit’ someone (hence - sweating them out like drugs), because fuck going back!”
MAY-A reveals the song has opened her brain to new sounds and styles she is keen to experiment in her upcoming new music. The one thing that stands out perhaps the most on ‘Sweat You Out My System’ is the confidence that is oozing from MAY-A with every note she hits. Her vocals are both gorgeously husky and powerful as well being imbued with emotion - her voice conveys every sensation she sings about.
“I’m fascinated with manipulating my voice and getting weirder with visuals,” MAY-A says. “I feel drawn to aesthetics from the 70s Sex Pistols era and the early 00s New York scene. If Don’t Kiss Ur Friends felt like Clairo / Claud / indie-pop-singer, I hope the next project sits in more of an 070 Shake / Remi Wolf / beabadoobee / Role Model / Kevin Abstract world.”
Ever since being nominated for Breakthrough Artist at the 2021 ARIA Music Awards, MAY-A has consistently lived up to that promise and ‘Sweat You Out My System’ opens up an exciting new chapter in her short but remarkable career. An artist to truly get excited about in 2023.
