EXCLUSIVE PREMIERE: Stream Marét's empowering debut EP now
Women In Pop is excited to today exclusively premiere the debut, self-titled EP by Canberra based singer-songer Marét.
First coming to attention in 2018 with her debut single ‘Vertigo’, a slinky, electropop, self-empowerment anthem, Marét continued to impress with second single ‘Perfectly Imperfect’, an ode to self-love and respect. The electropop vibe from her first two singles continues on the EP, although it is a collection of subtle halves.
Setting out her intent with first track ‘Camouflague’ - ‘I’ve been waiting all my life / I’m ready for the fight’ - the first three songs on the album are aggressively self-empowering and backed up with some of the most delicious and addictive electro-dance beats heard this year.
The second half is almost the morning after the big night out of the first half - a shift to intimate, confessional messages with a more chilled, dreamy sonic palette. ‘I don’t want to wait until tomorrow it’s too late’ she sings on ‘We Are Ready’ while ‘I Am The Wind’ is a rallying cry to reclaim your identity: ‘You can’t fight what you are…They told me lies about myself / I won’t say words for someone else.’ The EP closes with ‘Hold My Hand’ which exposes a more vulnerable side of Marét: ‘Why don’t you hold my hand / So you can understand / How this is hurting me / Do I die to be free?’
Marét is a powerful collection of music, not just for the intricate melodies, harmonies and soundscapes which never fail to impress, but also for the inspiring and heartfelt lyrics. This is pop music with a heart and Marét has crafted one of the most impressive debut EPs of 2019 - tune in, turn on and soak up the incredible vibes.
