Danielle Spencer returns with new single 'Regenerate'

Published: 2 December 2024

Australian singer-songwriter Danielle Spencer today returns with the release of her first new music release in 14 years with the single ‘Regenerate

Written by Spencer and co-produced with Peter Holz and Toby Chew-Lee, ‘Regenerate’ is a gorgeously dramatic, left of field, almost baroque pop track that opens with sounds of a thunderstorm before Spencer’s vocal begins a countdown and then breaks into its stunning full range. It mixes electronic pop, opera and classical music and consistently takes unexpected sonic twists and turns, keeping you intrigued throughout.

Lyrically, perhaps appropriately, it tells a story of breaking free of your old life and relaunching yourself into the world. ‘I’ve been gathering dust and cobwebs…it’s time to change / It’s time to grow,’ Spencer sings.

"‘Regenerate’ is about finding light after darkness.,” Spencer says. “It’s a very personal journey for me, but I think it’s something we all relate to—those moments where we feel broken but manage to rise again, stronger than ever."

‘Regenerate’ is the first single from Spencer’s upcoming third studio album which is due for release next year. Spencer will also perform the song live on 3 December as part of the OzHarvest Unite to Feed Australia Live! television special that will air on Channel 7 across Australia from 7:30pm.

Initially finding fame as an actor, Spencer released her debut album White Monkey in 2002, followed by Calling All Magicians in 2010. Known for her exceptional voice and her talent for emotive and evocative lyrics, Spencer is one of those artists that never conforms to the expected structures of pop music, in the best way possible, and everything she releases is simply special. Her return to music is an end of year delight and with more to come next year it’s an exciting new chapter in Spencer’s career.

‘Regenerate’ is out now. You can buy and stream here.
