Australia’s SAYAH today returns with the new single ‘Fruit’, her first new music in two years.
The track is an incredible slice of melodic pop with elements of synth and electro and a bright and breezy feel that disguises the emotional turmoil of the lyrics, which explores wanting a relationship with someone you know is bad for you. ‘Fuck you…now all I wanna do is touch that fruit’ she sings. “When you’ve got an insane connection with someone but you know they’re not good for you, so you try everything to move on including seeing new people,” SAYAH says of the inspiration behind the song. “But no matter what, they’re always on your mind and it’s so freaking annoying!!! At the same time, you also kinda love it.. Ughhh the confusion!!”
‘Fruit’ was co-written with Keppie Coutts and recorded at Taka Perry’s home studio. “Keppie and I wrote this song, she seeded the idea and came to me with the concept and it was crazy because I was literally going through that exact scenario at the time,” SAYAH says of the creative process behind the song. “It was like she had read my mind and we wrote the rest of the song within half an hour.”
‘Fruit’ is the first release from SAYAH since 2019’s single ‘Drama Queen’. She has spent the past two years writing as well being one of Australia’s most requested featured vocalist, singing with artists such as Safia, Thandi Phoenix, KLP, Peking Duk, Set Mo as well as being the current touring vocalist for and Cosmo's Midnight.
With her stunning voice (which is to die for) and her undeniable skill at crafting smart, infectious and relatable pop music SAYAH is one of the most impressive young talents in Australian music right now and her return as a solo artist with ‘Fruit’ is one of this years most welcome musical events.
‘Fruit’ is out now across all platforms. You can stream here.
