Yorke releases new single 'Wake The City'
Byron Bay’s Yorke (full name Grace Hughes) has today released her second single and video, the gorgeous ‘Wake This City’. Co-written with Andy Mak (Vera Blue), the song is a chilled out mix of indie pop and electro and Yorke says it is “one of the most vulnerable and exposed songs I’ve ever written”. Writing with Mak was, she says, a straightforward process. “We started chatting about the themes as we sat down at an old upright piano in the studio and the song just wrote itself. Sonically, I think the track is a big turning point for me, really cementing the Yorke sound.” The follow-up to last year’s ‘First Light’, Yorke is quickly cementing her place as one of the most exciting new talents on the Australian music scene.
Filmed in Brisbane, the music video was directed by Charli Burrows and Yorke says “The song itself means so much to me that I wanted to create something really vulnerable and raw. The director, Charli worked closely with me to maintain the sincerity of the track through the beautiful cinematography and locations. I feel it really brought the song to life."
‘Wake This City’ is out now. You can download it on iTunes and stream on Spotify.
