Winifred releases new single 'Drowning Purple'
Melbourne’s Winifred today releases her second single of 2021, ‘Drowning Purple’. A shimmering, electro-synth track, the song has a soundscape that throws out a multitude of beats and hooks that keep you intrigued until the end.
“When I wrote ‘Drowning Purple’, I put two words together that sparked a visualisation and a mood. ‘Drowning’ and ‘Purple’, for some reason those two words seemed to hit on a feeling and so I delved into it,” Winifred says. “I think Drowning Purple has melodramatic qualities, ie, ’I’m Drowning Purple for you, can you hear me calling your name’ but I also feel there’s a strong sense of romance as the song develops, not necessarily reflecting real life, maybe more of a fantasy or a daydream.”
The track follows her comeback release from earlier this year, the lush electropop single ‘Into The Night’ which received acclaim from triple J and The Guardian amongst others.
Alongside her career as a solo performer, Winifred has also had success as a songwriter, including co-writing with Alice Ivy on her single ‘In My Mind’, featuring Ecca Vandal, which has achieved over 4.5 million global streams and featured in an Apple iPhone advertising campaign.
Winfred creates beautiful, immersive electronica infused pop that is both ethereal and encompassing and she is an emerging artist we recommend keeping a close watch on.
