The McClymonts return with new album 'Mayhem To Madness'
Australian country pop trio The McClymonts today release their sixth studio album - and first in three years - Mayhem To Madness. Written by Brooke, Mollie and Sam McClymont, the album was produced by Andy Mak who also helmed their 2017 release Endless. The McClymonts have said Mak pushed them out of their comfort zone during recording, and the results are spectacular. The trio’s music continues to evolve and mature and while Mayhem To Madness is firmly rooted in the band’s country roots there is a whole kaleidoscope of sonics swirling through the album, including liberal doses of pop, guitar rock and moving ballads. First single, the rollicking ‘I Got This’ is perhaps the perfect example of The McClymonts sound in 2020 - impossibly catchy melodies, passionate vocals, empowering lyrics and electro beats wrapped in a country soul. Second single ‘Open Heart’ is an album highlight, with its light and breezy vibe with lyrics urging you to take life by the horns - “Where I’m going I don’t know, but I don’t care” - evokes lazy summer days driving with the top down. The minimalist, stripped back ‘Good Advice’ is probably the album’s most out-and-out pop song and skates along against a jittering back beat allowing the powerhouse vocals to shine. A cover version of the Fleetwood Mac classic ‘Little Lies’ is a welcome surprise, while ‘Wish You Hell’ is a heartfelt guitar ballad that details a relationship breakdown.
To celebrate the release of the album, The McClymonts will be staging an online album launch tomorrow, 13 June, at 6pm AEST on their Facebook page. The band will play an acoustic set of 5 songs for fans across the world. Later this year, the band will be touring live across Australia, from September through to January next year. Tickets are on sale now. “We’ve been planning for the release of the album and the tour for over a year and we had to make some tough decisions when it came to whether to release the album at this time,” Mollie says. “We are so grateful to the country music community for getting behind us and showing us that we made the right decision to get the album out now.”
