EXCLUSIVE PREMIERE: SAYAH 'He's Not Over Me'
Today Women In Pop premiere the incredible new single from Sydney singer-songwriter SAYAH – ‘He’s Not Over Me’.
The track is SAYAH’s first new music since 2017 when her debut track, the soulful ‘Addicts’ which drew comparisons with legends Amy Winehouse and Erykah Badu, hit number 1 on the Triple J Unearthed pop chart. Follow up track ‘Bad Drug’ was released the same year and saw SAYAH’s first foray into a more electro sound.
‘He’s Not Over Me’ follows the grimy electro vibe of ‘Bad Drug’ with brooding verses giving way to a jittering, explosive chorus, all presided over by SAYAH’s gorgeous, emotive, full-bodied vocals.
The track details finding out an ex-lover has moved onto a new partner and SAYAH says the track is a “love triangle with no winners.” There is a beautiful contrast between the outwardly sassy and in control SAYAH and the heartfelt, almost, pleading delivery of the lyrics “It’s not over, it’s not over / And you know it”. SAYAH admits there is an element of wishful thinking in the lyrics. “When I wrote [the lyrics] I had an aching to be right, but I had mostly doubt.”
The single is released on January 18 but you can listen to it today exclusively on Women In Pop, as well as watch the lyric video, click links below. Stay tuned for more SAYAH and Women In Pop.
