Ricki-Lee returns with new single 'Ghost' and announces fifth album 'On My Own' will be released in March.
One of Australia’s most popular entertainers Ricki-Lee today releases her new single ‘Ghost’ and announces her fifth studio album, and first in ten years, On My Own will be released on March 8.
Written by Ricki-Lee with David Musumeci & Anthony Egizii (DNA), who also produced the track, ‘Ghost’ is a glorious, sweeping mid tempo electronic pop track with hints of melancholy paired with a anthemic pre-chorus chant and Ricki-Lee’s majestic vocals. The song looks at being ghosted by someone who was an integral and important part of your life: ‘You never said goodbye / Never told me why / Swallowing my pride tastes so bitter,” Ricki-Lee sings.
“I wrote the song about being ghosted. We’ve all been there, and it’s such a weird and frustrating thing to go through because you never really get any closure,” Ricki-Lee says. “It was actually a difficult song for me to write because it’s about losing someone I was extremely close to. One minute they were a huge part of my life, and the next day they were gone. It was like they died…but they didn’t…they just vanished out of my life one day. I was heartbroken. And what makes it worse is that we live in a world where social media keeps everyone connected – but sometimes it’s more like you’re being haunted by the person who ghosted you when you see their face popping up in your DM’s and watching everything you’re doing.”
Ricki-Lee goes on to say ‘Ghost ‘ is one of her favourite songs she has ever written. “For me, it’s up there with ‘On My Own’ and ‘Raining Diamonds’ as one of my favourite songs I’ve ever written,” she reveals. “From the second we wrote this song I knew it was a single, and I could see people screaming along to the chorus at the top of their lungs! Not every song is like that… but from the beginning this one just hit different. It’s fun, but it’s sad. It’s heavy but uplifting. It’s reflective but it’s also celebratory”.
‘Ghost’ will feature on Ricki-Lee’s fifth studio album, due to be released on March 8, alongside her previous singles ‘On My Own’ and ‘Point Of No Return’. Her first album in 10 years, it will be well worth the wait and Ricki-Lee has spent close to two years creating it. “Over the last 18 months I have poured my absolute everything into this album and without a doubt it’s my best work to date, I’ve never been prouder,” she says.
Since first releasing music in 2005, Ricki-Lee has scored multiple top 10 hit singles and multiple music awards and nominations, and alongside her music career she is also the host of Australian Idol and a number 1 rating drive time radio show on Nova. One Australia’s most loved and talented artists, it feels like Ricki-Lee is just hitting her prime, and with music as good as ‘Ghost’, it looks like 2024 is going to be a triumphant year for Ricki-Lee.
