LGBTQI+ hip-hop artist and producer Poppy Rose today returns with her first music in almost a year with the single ‘Sway’.

The song is a declaration of self confidence and an urge to choose love, as Poppy makes clear she is back, better than ever. “Sway out of my way / This is my time, my day…you can choose love why hate.” Sonically is has a classic hip-hop sound, with a hypnotic beat and delicious bursts of piano and horns.

“‘Sway’ is a reality check to the self, conveyed in a smooth and tongue-in-cheek kind of way,” Poppy says. “It's a showcase of fun, catchy wordplay said real simple and clear! Out of my way!"

Poppy first came to prominence in 2017 with her debut single ‘Ocean’, a gorgeous, pared back indie-pop-hip hop track that has been streamed close to 1.5 million times to date. A subsequent two year struggle with addiction coupled with the pandemic shut down saw Poppy’s music career sidelined, but in the end Poppy emerged as a more rounded and complete performer, redefining who she was as an artist and teaching herself to produce on GarageBand. She returned in late 2022 with the single ‘My God’ and has created over a hundred unreleased demos, building an impressive pipeline of new music for this new chapter in her career.

With sharp lyrics, edgy beats and a swagger that is simply addictive, Poppy Rose is a shining star in the Australian hip hop scene and her return is a sonic joy. With the promise of more incredible music to come, her future looks very bright indeed.

‘Sway’ is out now via Island Records. You can buy and stream here.
