MUSIC PREMIERE: Mila Nile releases new single 'Break My Heart To The Beat'
Sydney-based Swede Mila Nile has been releasing music since 2018 and is one of those artists who develop and become more confident with their art over the years in what feels like a personal journey with you. Today, we are proud to premiere the latest release by Nile in the form of the single ‘Break My Heart To The Beat’.
A pulsing, addictive pop tune dripping in 1980s vibes and dance floor ready beats, like much of Nile’s music it plays with structure so on first listen its impossible to predict where the song is going - in the best way possible. Just when you expect the chorus to break, she she pulls it back to pointedly sing ‘only one of us is getting out of here alive’ over a stripped back beat, a brilliant fake-out that intensifies the delight of the chorus when it hits you.
Nile says the song is about “escapism and heartbreak. It’s inspired by a time in my life when I felt so overwhelmed with loss that I had a kind of out-of-body experience and I found myself at a house party dancing like a maniac. I’m fascinated by that idea of how we find ways to cope with emotionally draining experiences, and how often people turn to music to help them deal with, or momentarily escape, things that are impossible to comprehend.”
Despite the dark subject matter, the overriding aim of the track was to make it danceable. “Dance is such a powerful outlet, and I wanted to create a song that people couldn’t help but move to,” Nile says. “I hope people feel a kind of melancholic euphoria in the music and play it loud and proud every time they need to dance out their demons.”
The follow up to the single ‘Cranes’, released in May, ‘Break My Heart To The Beat’ is another shining star in Mila Nile’s ever growing portfolio and we can only see even more outstanding pop from her in the coming months. “I feel like I’ve sharpened my sound and my songwriting this year, because there hasn’t been much else to do,” she says. “I seriously can’t wait to share all the sounds and imagery I’ve been working on and reconnect with people again.”
