Montaigne collaborates with David Byrne on new single 'Always Be You'

Australian singer-songwriter Montaigne today returns with new single ‘Always Be You’, in the process revealing the song is a collaboration with Talking Heads frontman David Byrne.
The track is an uplifting, glitchy pop track that explores the rush of falling in love. It is an addictive, left of centre song with a fascinating soundscape that is continuously introducing new hooks, keeping you hypnotised to the very end.
A long-time fan of New York-based Byrne, Montaigne reached out to him after writing the song in the hope he would contribute vocals to it. After hearing the music, he quickly agreed.
“It’s a dream come true to be able to work with David Byrne (if only remotely)!” Montaigne says. “Everything he’s done from the Talking Heads to solo work & one-off collaborations has been so influential to me. It’s absolutely buck wild to me that he has assented to singing lyrics and melodies I’ve written, as well as contributing his own fabulous sense of humour & writing voice. Such a treat. I’m so happy I could get him on board with this particular song too. We both share the song’s sentiment about being with our partners and we’re both fans of [British comedian] Daniel Kitson. I hope Daniel Kitson (with whom I have played football one time at Crystal Palace) likes this song and plays it on his radio show.”
Today the music video for ‘Always Be You’ has also been released, starring both Montaigne and Byrne alongside Montaigne’s partner Pat.
Since she first released music in 2014, Montaigne has proven to be one of Australia’s most creative and unique musical artists. Bridging indie and pop, her music is consistently top-tier and refuses to adhere to conventional ideas around structure and genre whilst still remaining completely accessible. ‘Always Be You’ is the second single to be released in this next era of her music, after October’s ‘Now (In Space)’ with her third studio album due to be released later this year.
