Luen announces her self-titled EP + Women’s DJ Workshops National Tour in October

DJ and curator Luen today announces a national tour for her self-titled debut EP — out 31st October. To coincide with the release, Luen will also be inviting women, female-indentifying trans and non-binary aspiring DJs to free and inclusive workshops across capital and regional cities across summer. Luen says: “With an increased awareness over the last few years around the lack of females being booked for events and festivals (thanks in part to call-outs such as @lineupswithoutmales ), there are more promoters and booking agents than ever before looking to be actively inclusive of women. I’m proud to offer my skills and knowledge to help women, trans and non-binary become part of the community — and teach them the vital skills of Djing so they can add their voices and selections to the music industry across the country.”

After initially offering a Sydney based workshop to just her social media followers in 2018, Luen was overwhelmed with the response — the event booked out within 5 minutes, and amassed a waiting list of over 300 attendees. With her years of experience, the intimate classes teach technical skills as well as industry knowledge. Continuing the concept across 7 cities in 2019, Luen has now taught over 1,000 women to DJ.

Luen says of the tour: “I’m excited that this tour will be an opportunity where the female DJ community expands everytime I leave another city. Teaching Djing is literally one of the coolest jobs in the world and I'm aiming to teach 400 women in 2 months alongside these club shows. I'm also having queer dancers on stage with me at every show and visuals from my favorite artists. This opportunity is ridiculous and I can’t wait to get started!”

Luen’s debut EP is a self-released collection of rhythmic and exploratory grooves — invoking warehouse techno and 90’s rave nostalgia - and will be available in limited edition vinyl.

To take part in the free DJ workshops, you can register via Eventbrite from 9am Oct 18th. More info at luenfree.com
