Halsey releases Y2K inspired, Britney Spears sampling single 'Lucky'

Superstar Halsey today releases her new single ‘Lucky’, the follow up to the touching ballad ‘The End’ which accompanied the announcement she was on the path to recovery after a serious illness.

‘Lucky’ was written by Halsey with production from Michael Uzi, who has worked with Beyoncé, FKA Twigs, Troye Sivan, Rosalia, Frank Ocean and more. With a 2000s pop vibe, the song features an interpolation from both Britney Spears’ 2000 hit ‘Lucky’ in the chorus, plus the Monica number 1 hit ‘Angel of Mine’.

The song takes a similar lyrical journey as Spears’ original hit, but is flipped to tell Halsey’s story of struggling with fame, self-worth and her health. ‘When I die, I won't have time to spend my money / But I hope that you still love me…I told everybody I was fine for a whole damn year / And that's the biggest lie of my career,’ she sings.

A music video has also been released. Directed by Gia Coppola (Palo Alto, Mainstream) with cinematography by Alexis Zabe (The Florida Project), the video features a cameo from actor Simon Rex alongside Halsey.

With over 50 billion global streams to her name, Halsey is one of the greatest artists of her generation. Her four studio albums have all peaked in the top 2 of the US Billboard album charts and she is one of a very select group of artists who have ever had four different songs hit one billion streams on Spotify as well as have 2 RIAA certified diamond records. Both ‘Lucky’ and previous single ‘The End’ are expected to feature on Halsey’s yet to be announced fifth studio album.
