Beckah Amani releases new single 'I Don't Know Why I Don't Leave You'

One of Australia’s most talented newcomers Beckah Amani has released her new single ‘I Don’t Know Why I Don’t Leave You’, written by Amani and co-produced by Josh Fountain (BENEE) and Tony Buchen (Troye Sivan, G Flip).
The track has a more mainstream pop sound than Amani’s previous work and mixes piano with an insistent beat and Amani’s incredible voice which is capable of hitting high and low notes and covering a range of emotions with ease.
“‘I Don’t Know Why I Don’t Leave You’ is about the unrealistic expectations we have about relationships that rom coms, drama series, fairy tales and romantic novels have set,” Amani explains. “The song hinges on the lyrics ‘chasing shadows in despair’ and ‘I don’t know why I don’t leave you’.”
“While rewatching some classic rom coms and dramas including Twilight, Pride and Prejudice, The Notebook, Pretty Woman, and newcomers To All The Boys I Loved Before and Bridgerton, it was striking to realise how love in reality doesn’t unfold the way it does in these movies and shows. I felt let down by the thought that love won’t look and feel like it does in these movies which have shaped my expectations.”
Amani has also released the music video for the song which she directed herself. Featuring her fantasising about the perfect date, only to release the date was far from perfect, she choses to leave him, ending with the lyrics ‘This time I think I will leave you’.
“It was thrilling to direct this music video!” Amani says. “From the day I wrote the song I knew what I wanted the music video to look like and be about, so getting the chance to direct it felt right. It was challenging planning the finer details that come with shooting a music video such as lighting, locations, crew and putting together a shot list that makes sense to a DOP. In the end it was so much fun to be on set and see the music video come to life!”
Amani has been releasing music for several years but 2022 is seeing her talents well and truly blossom. In March she released the delicious single ‘Lebeka Leka’, with its addictive melody and warmth guaranteed to wind around your soul and never let go. She has recently moved to London to advance her career and will be performing at The Great Escape festival in Brighton next week.
Amani creates music that simply brings joy into your life and she is an artist that needs to be on your playlist right now. She has the potential to be a major star and we can’t wait to hear what she releases next.
