Alice Ivy Listicle: The 5 songs that inspired 'Sunrise'
Melbourne producer Alice Ivy has released new single ‘Sunrise’, a glorious 70s-riffing synthpop track which is the perfect vibe for the fast approaching summer. Featuring Canadian rapper Cadence Weapon, Ivy has built a track full of her trademark intricate melodies, addictive beats and vocals that quickly become an earworm. Ivy says of the songs creation: "When I started writing ‘Sunrise’ it was the middle of the Australian winter. I wanted to write something that reminded me of summer, especially in Melbourne, which for me is all about having park beers with my friends in Edinburgh Gardens or being on a rooftop listening to music.”
To celebrate the release of ‘Sunrise’, Alice talked us through the top 5 tracks that inspired the creation of ‘Sunrise’, take a look below.
Alice Ivy: The top 5 songs that inspired ‘Sunrise’
Disclosure - Ultimatum ft. Fatoumata Diawara
It’s not so much the mood of the song that inspired ‘Sunrise’, it’s more the production technique. I love how the whole song is written around that main vocal sample! I based the whole song and feel around that horn sample in ‘Sunrise’.
Daft Punk - Around the World
I’ve always wanted to create and use the main vocal vocoder effect in a song and I feel like we nailed it in the bridge in ‘Sunrise’.
Kaytranada - Glowed up ft. Anderson Paak
Not just this song but ‘99.9%’ by Kaytranda has had a massive influence on ‘Sunrise’ and most of my production. I love the big drum sounds, and the use of pretty organic sounding hits.
The Avalanches - Because I’m Me
I love how this song just instantly feels like a party when you turn it on. Exactly the kinda feeling I wanted to establish with ‘Sunrise’.
Anderon. Paak - Am I Wrong (feat. Schoolboy Q)
What I love the most about this song is the whole “I’ll own the night” feeling. It’s a song that makes you feel awesome, has heaps of groove and is something you could have on loop and not get sick of. I wanted to recreate this feeling in ‘Sunrise’.
‘Sunrise’ is out now on Dew Process/Universal Music. You can download on iTunes and stream on Apple Music and Spotify.
