Tkay Maidza releases new single 'Ring-a-Ling' and announces new album 'Sweet Justice' will be released November 3

Zimbabwean-born, Australian-raised, Los Angeles-based superstar Tkay Maidza today drops new single ‘Ring-a-Ling’ and also announces her second album Sweet Justice will be released on November 3.

‘Ring-a-Ling’ showcases Maidza’s versatility as an artist. A powerful rap track, it also incorporates sweet vocals and electronic-R&B sounds towards the end of the track. Lyrically, Maidza takes ownership of her value and her absolute focus on achieving everything she wants from life. “I'm never choosing' compliance…Come correct or don't at all,” she sings.

“I wanted to make an empowering song that tells others that my biggest focus are my goals,” Maidza says of the song.

Following up ‘Silent Assassin’, Maidza’s collaboration with Flume from earlier this year, ‘Ring-a-Ling’ is the second taste of her second studio album Sweet Justice which is due out on November 3. The album was inspired by Maidza going through a breakup - but in this case it was a break up with her old life. Ridding herself of toxic figures that surrounded her, as well as the self doubt and damaging views of self that plagued her, Maidza has experienced a rebirth personally and creatively that is reflected in Sweet Justice.

“Sweet Justice was a way for me to channel my emotions from what I’ve experienced in the last two years,” Maidza says. “It’s a diary of things and thoughts I’ve kept to myself. Making the record was a healing experience and I’m grateful to have worked with producers who have inspired me throughout my career.” 

Alongside Flume, Sweet Justice includes collaborations with Lolo Zouaï and Amber Mark on ‘Out of Luck’ and Duckwrth on ‘Gone to the West’, with Canadians Stint and Kaytranada contributing on the production side. It is an album that is both deep and emotional as well as bright and fun.

Maidza is nothing short of a mesmerising artist and is undoubtedly one of Australia’s premier artists. With each release she becomes a more assured, brilliant performer. With her reputation building internationally (she recently supported Lizzo on her Australia tour), global domination for Maidza must surely be on the cards in the near future, and Sweet Justice is destined to be your end of year highlight.
